Mic Level Meter

マイク入力メーター
検証済TESTED
● Your audio is analysed locally in this browser tab; nothing is ever recorded, stored, or uploaded.

The meter starts only when you ask; the mic is requested from this button, never on page load.

Speak at your normal distance; a healthy voice level sits in the brass zone around −24 to −12 dB, with peaks just kissing the red.

How it works

仕組み

See your microphone’s live input level as a moving meter with RMS and peak readouts in dB. It’s the quickest way to answer “is my mic even working?” before a call, check whether you’re too quiet or clipping, and compare positions or mics: questions only your actual hardware can answer. Click the button to grant mic access; the browser analyses the signal in real time with an AnalyserNode and draws the meter at your display’s frame rate. The audio never leaves the page: nothing is recorded, stored, or sent anywhere, and closing the tab (or pressing Stop) releases the mic instantly.

What level should my voice sit at?

For calls and recording, aim for an average around −24 to −12 dB with peaks touching −6 dB at most, comfortably inside the brass zone on this meter. Constantly hitting the red near 0 dB means clipping and distortion; barely moving off −50 dB means you’ll be inaudible or drowned in noise-floor hiss. Adjust the input gain in your OS sound settings, not just your distance.

The meter doesn’t move at all. Is my mic broken?

Usually it’s selection, not hardware: the browser may be listening to a different input than you expect, so check the default microphone in your OS or the per-site device picker next to the address bar. Also confirm no physical mute switch is engaged and no other app has exclusive control of the device. If another site or app picks up sound, the mic itself is fine.

Is my audio being recorded or uploaded?

No. The samples are analysed in memory inside your browser tab and immediately discarded; there is no recording, no storage, and no network transfer of audio. The site has no backend to send anything to. Pressing Stop (or leaving the page) stops all tracks, which also turns off your browser’s mic-in-use indicator.
